Jesus told the disciples, “What a huge harvest!” And how few the harvest hands. So on your knees; ask the God of the Harvest to send harvest hands.” (Luke 10:2, The Message)
I really appreciate Eugene Peterson’s translation, “Harvest hands” since they go along with the “Head”, “Heart”, and “Hands” somatic category that goes with “Prophetic,” “Priestly,” and “Kingly” biblical offices of Christ.
Too often Christians are satisfied with being harvest heads and hearts as they agree and pray for evangelism and mission. Jesus’ command shows what is lacking in the balance scale of the Great Commission – namely, action plans for actual evangelism and mission that gets transferred into weekly schedules and annual calendars.
When was the last time you scheduled a lunch meeting or coffee break with a friend or coworker you have been praying to share what Jesus is doing and how he is changing you?
When was the last time you were involved in service projects in your community?
Yes, we need to study the Bible to learn God’s will to save sinners and pray for the hearts of sinners to turn to Jesus.
But let us remember to put our hands to work of evangelism and mission.
Will you check your schedule and calendar right now to make plans?
