Several things have happened since, which have diverted people’s minds and turned their conversation more to other affairs. In particular, people were more inclined to concern themselves with the treaty with the Indians, the Springfield controversy, or the building of a new meetinghouse. Many other events have had a similar effect.
Jonathan Edwards, The Surprising Work of God, (p. 119).
Pray, Christians, pray against the gradual withdrawing of the Holy Spirit.
1. Preaching
Pray for the reality of Christianity to be explicit in all pulpits through faithful and powerful preaching of God’s word.
2. Praising
Pray for the reality of Christianity to be experienced in all congregations through joyful and holy celebration of God’s work and character.
3. Praying
Pray for the reality of Christianity to be expressed in all conversations with God and for God’s people in the gradual resurgence of the Holy Spirit.
4. Promoting
Pray for the reality of Christianity to be implemented daily in the lives of God’s people as they promote God’s work and words in their practice of due diligence in all responsibilities against the indulgence of selfish lethargy and licence in rebellion.
