Meaning of Christ

If Christ means “Messiah,” “Hero,” or “Lord,” then Mark Zuckerberg can be your social “Christ” as he envisions the world where “Facebook stands for bringing us closer together and building a global community” as he outlined it in the latest blog Building Global Community. I think it’s a great proposal and hope it brings about real changes to many communities. However, I do want to point out that the true great global community is already built by Jesus through the work of his redemption on the cross and is continuing to be built by people all over the world throughout history before the world wide web came into being.

Is Jesus Your Christ?

Mark invites you to build a global community that is supportive, safe, informed, civilly-engaged and inclusive. That’s awesome! That and more is what Jesus invited the broken, destitute, oppressed, and neglected community into the community of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I am for building global community. But I want to acknowledge the right person for building global community before people start jumping in with the latest and the brightest Christ who shows up.

What Are You Building?

Jesus invites you to acknowledge him as Lord or Christ just as Mark Zuckerberg invites billions of people on Facebook to participate in building a global community. We already have a global community in and through Christ of Life. I am doing my part by building a healthy family, a church community, and an ethical business. I am contributing to this building of global community by sharing the truth that Jesus is the founder, builder, and perfecter of the global community. What does it look like for you to acknowledge Jesus on Facebook or in other domains of your life?
